What Are The Different Renewable Energy Sources Available?

There are many different types of renewable energy sources available in our surroundings. However, most of them depend on sunlight in some or the other way. Hydroelectricity and wind are results of the heating of the earth’s surface.

Also, this leads to the movement of air and forms precipitated clouds. Sunlight is directly converted to solar energy using solar panels or solar collectors. Plants store biomass energy in the form of sunlight. However, there are other renewable energy sources that do not directly depend on sunlight. These are gravitational energy and geothermal energy.

Different Renewable Energy Sources Found In Our Surroundings.

Solar renewable energy:

Solar energy depends on the power of nuclear fusion from the sun. This energy is collected and converted into different forms of energy. It is used in solar panels to generate electricity and various other things. And then, put to use both domestically and commercially. However, it is unfortunate that solar energy is not sufficient to power our modernized culture.

Wind energy:

The earth has varying temperatures all around the planet because of the changing movement of the atmosphere. Sunlight falls on the surface of the earth and causes this changing weather and temperature conditions. The wind blows at different speeds at different places. Movement of the air generates wind energy. It is either used to generate electricity or pump water. However, the production of enough wind energy requires a huge area. Windmills work to generate electricity from the movement of air. Therefore, the outskirt of the cities is where you will mostly find them.

Sunlight lifts water from the oceansHydroelectricity uses the gravity of elevated water which the sunlight lifts from the oceans. It is not exactly amongst the renewable energy sources because each reservoir fills up and requires an excavation that costs much higher. In the modern world, hydroelectric dams use these locations, today. Hence, not much comparable energy or electricity is coming from the hydroelectric power plants.


Plant’s energy is the common name of biomass. All around the world people use this phenomenon in their daily life. It is unfortunate though that people burn trees for cooking and give themselves warmth. Much amount of carbon dioxide gets into the atmosphere during this process, this leads to polluted air in that particular area. Biomass energy has many forms which include the generation of methane and alcohol production. Power plants and vehicles use this to be powered. If we use biomass as renewable energy sources, much of the environmental pollution will be reduced.

Hydrogen And Fuel Cells

These are also not amongst renewable energy sources. However, they are considered as a renewable source because they are found in abundance. They also don’t pollute the environment when we utilize them. Vehicle fuel use hydrogen. The combustion product in such cases is just water. If we utilize this fuel, there will be lesser air pollution in the surroundings. Hydrogen can even be used in fuel cells. they are much similar to the batteries that we use.

Whatever the case may be, hydrogen production requires immense power. Although, hydrogen gas requires energy production which in turn results in pollution relocation to power plants from the cities. There are many other methods for producing hydrogen-like solar power. This can drastically alter the entire picture.

Other Renewable Energy Sources:

There are many other renewable energy sources like tidal waves, oceans, and fusion of hot hydrogen. The generation of electricity is possible through these energy sources. However, these energy sources have their own drawbacks and we can’t depend on them for electricity production.
